Morocco Weather Month by Month
Morocco's weather varies sharply by region and season. Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) are the most comfortable nationwide, summer is scorching inland and pleasant on the coast, and winter is mild in cities but cold in the mountains and desert nights.

Understanding Morocco's climates

Morocco packs several climates into one country: a Mediterranean and Atlantic coast, a hot semi-arid interior (Marrakech, Fez), high mountains (the Atlas, snowy in winter), and the Sahara, which swings between extreme heat and cold nights.

Because of this, there is no single best month for everywhere. Choose your timing by the region and activity that matters most for your trip.

Winter (December to February)

Coastal and inland cities are mild by day, typically 16-20C, but evenings turn cold, dropping to single digits inland. This is low season with good prices in cities.

The High Atlas sees snow and skiing at Oukaimeden, while the Sahara has warm days but very cold nights. Pack warm layers if heading to mountains or desert.

Spring (March to May)

Spring is the all-round sweet spot. Cities warm pleasantly into the 20s, wildflowers bloom, and the desert is comfortable before the summer extremes arrive.

It is an ideal window for combining cities, the Atlas and the Sahara. Demand and prices rise, especially around Easter, so book ahead.

Summer (June to August)

Inland cities bake: Marrakech and Fez routinely hit 38-45C, and the Sahara is dangerously hot for daytime activity. This is the season to head for cooler air.

The Atlantic coast (Essaouira, Agadir) stays around 22-26C and breezy, while the mountains offer relief and great trekking. Plan inland sightseeing for early and late in the day.

Autumn (September to November)

Autumn rivals spring for comfort. The heat eases through September, leaving warm, dry days and cooler nights across most regions, ideal for desert tours and city walks.

Late autumn can bring the first rains to the north and occasional showers, but settled sunny weather is the norm into November.

Region-by-region quick guide

For the Sahara, target spring or autumn to avoid both summer heat and freezing winter nights. For the Atlantic coast, summer is perfect when inland is too hot.

For the Atlas Mountains, summer is best for trekking and winter for snow; for the imperial cities, spring and autumn offer the most comfortable sightseeing.
